Write Books
Write Books
If you want to write books, be prepared for a long and exhausting journey. Writing is not easy, and when you endeavor to write books, you are taking a lot on. Dont get me wrong, its a great experience, and if you want to do it, you most certainly should. Even if you never attempt to get it published, there is something amazing about putting your thoughts down and weaving a story.
When you start out to write books, make sure you have a good word processor. When I write, I cant write without using a spell check. As I always tell my friends: I am a writer, not a speller. The two dont always go hand in hand, Im afraid, and a spell check is a lifesaver for me. Make sure you are aware of the basic rules of style, and find some writing exercises to do before you begin. When you write books, you want your mind to be sharp and ready to go.
Make special time each week that is set aside to write books. You should have a special place that is free from interruption so you can work. There are exceptions though. Personally, I cannot write without being interrupted. I have a young daughter at home, and Im not ready to send her off to preschool just yet, so she stays here with me. I have special writing time and special time for her, but she always interrupts my writing time. When shes not here, and I have total silence, I find that I cannot write as well as when she is here. It all depends on what you are used to.
Sometimes, writing books can be a personal journey, and sometimes, it is a journey that you cannot take alone. When you are emotionally involved in something, it is sometimes hard to see things clearly. This wont work for everyone who wants to write books, but it always helps to get advice when you feel stuck. You dont have to show anyone what you are doing, but you can give him or her a general idea of where you are going, and ask what he or she thinks.
In order to write books, you really have to have staying power. Some many people start and never finish. Its not even a matter of trying to get it published; its more a matter of personal achievement. Even if you and your best friend are the only two that read the book, you will get a good feeling from knowing you did it, and you finished it. Who knows, maybe somewhere along the line you will again write books, and this time, theyll go further than your desk drawer.
